Latest Match Report

7th Dec: Vs Jossys Giants
0-3
Our best of the season so far and deserving of more than we got. We had fantastic communication, tenacity, and organization, and can consider ourselves unlucky in the manner of the defeat.
The first half saw the Reds pack midfield with a view to restricting the free-scoring league leaders, and plugging the leaks which have seen us concede 15 goals in our last 3 games. Although limiting our attack and isolating Gaz as a lone striker, the defense and midfield looked solid and we stifled their best player to produce a tight stalemate for most of the half.
After about half an hour a speculative shot from distance looped into the top corner to give Jossy’s the lead, and then lady luck deserted the Reds just before half time when a penalty was awarded against Neil.
2-0 at half time flattered the opposition, but the Reds came out second half in a more attacking 4-4-2 and dominated the rest of the game. Jossy\'s could not get out of their own half as the substitutes made their impacts felt; Irshad showing pace and skill on the wing, Jon and Joe pulling the strings in midfield, and Colm offering more up front with Gaz.
A goal seemed to be just a matter of time, and was so nearly the case when a corner fell kindly to Gaz 5 yards out. Unfortunately it went over the bar, and as if to complete the one-sided share of the luck, Jossy’s scored directly from their own corner in the 85th minute to make it 3-0 and effectively kill the game.
I think it’s probably the closest 3-0 I’ve ever seen, and for much of the game the best team in our league were hanging on against us…… if we play like that for the rest of the season, we can be assured of a Top 3 finish and promotion.
So, on to the next game; SUNDAY verses the bottom side Ecolog.

2010-2011 Season Player Information

Neil Vuyk
Position: Goalkeeper
Excellent South African shot stopper who can usually be heard shouting at his back 4 from row Z.
He has the wondering tendencies of a young Bruce Grobbelaar, but luckily the reactions of him also.

Rob Kesterton
Position: Defender
Solid in the tackle Rob packs a mean punch for a small guy. Usually found chopping at a strikers back heels, but he also has good pace going forward.

Bobby Trivic
Position: Defender
Dodgy Serbian Centre half who models himself on Razor Ruddock both in frame and speed on the turn. Bobby has not quite yet fulfilled the last Razor ambition of not fitting into the club shorts, but he’s working on it. Has recently developed a penchant for own goals to add to his repertoire of hacking the ball up field.

Liam Flynn
Position: Defender
The rock at the back, Liam was one of the first signings for the Dubai Reds way back in 2008. Strong in the air and tough in the tackle, Liam is also known for breaking forward to lash one into the top corner. Goals from the halfway line are his specialty.

Stewart Gale
Position: Defender
Tireless on the pitch Stu is solid in the center and good moving up the wing to support the attack. He has that gift of turning long distance crosses into goals – which is a good trait for any defender!

Rob Jones
Position: Defender
Often seen also on a Rugby Football pitch, Rob has adapted well this season to the real game of football and suits the full back position well with his pace and strength.

Dan Marsh
Position: Midfield
Dan has been an ever-present for the Dubai Reds since early 2008. The striker bagged lots of goals in the past 2 seasons, but suffers the Andy Cole syndrome of missing more chances than he scores! Not what his idol (Ian Rush) would be proud of.

Dave Burge
Position: Midfield
Dave was voted by his peers in 2010-11 as ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Runner Up Player of the Season’. Dave is one of the eldest statesman of the team and relies on his positional play and good goal per game ratio for a midfielder, rather than speed and the ability to run to all points of the pitch.Dave is a self-confessed Jan Molby fan.

Adam Hassoun
Position: Midfield
Another good tackler in midfield, Adam works hard across the pitch and is adaptable to support all positions. He has yet to convert some of his Xavi Alonso style shots, but I’m sure it won’t be long now.

Joe Almond
Position: Midfield
A central player with attacking flair who helps to support the attack but with a defensive head. His off the ball work is often unnoticed by helps to create some much needed space for others to utilize.

Tom Allen
Position: Midfield
Golden Boot Tom has notched on several occasions already this season. He still doesn’t know which is his strongest foot as both are so good – supplying some critical crosses for our strike force.

Rick Lawton
Position: Midfield
Another solid midfield player with more tricks in the locker to come. Good on the ball and always looking for an attacking pass.

Jon Abel
Position: Midfield
A work horse across the pitch, Jon has been moved round the field but is settling into midfield well. Always present his commitment is second to none.

Colm Hunter
Position: Striker
The tall man up front with a poacher’s appetite. Often found hanging around goal posts and 6-yard boxes waiting for the right opportunities.

Gaz Brown
Position: Striker
Gaz’s 3rd season with The Reds has continued with a flurry of goals from all angles. The set piece specialist plays by example and is a vital link in The Reds attacking force.

Irshad Hassimdeen
Position: Striker

Ryan Copley
Position: Striker

Neil Vuyk
Position: Goalkeeper
Excellent South African shot stopper who can usually be heard shouting at his back 4 from row Z. He has the wondering tendencies of a young Bruce Grobbelaar, but luckily the reactions of him also.
